Grape-Nuts ice cream is a New England favorite. Make it even better with the addition of buttermilk and honey.
Recipe type: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Serves: 1 quart
  • 1½ cup heavy cream
  • 1½ cup buttermilk
  • 1/ cup honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup Grape-Nuts cereal
  1. In a medium saucepan bring the milk, buttermilk and honey to a simmer. Stirring until combined.
  2. Remove from heat. Let cool about 15 minutes.
  3. Stir in the vanilla. Cover and chill for several hours or overnight.
  4. Make ice cream following ice cream maker manufacturers instructions. Add the Grape-Nuts cereal just before the ice cream completely hardens.
  5. Spoon ice cream into an air-tight container. Keep in the freezer at least overnight before eating.
  6. Grape-Nuts will soften and become chewy the longer the ice cream sits. But it's ok, it tastes delicious even if you eat it all while the cereal is still crunchy!
